Summary:

The group sits in the circle. The facilitator demonstrates to participants how to guide a person with visual impairments. Then the participants go into process to try (they take each other by the hand alternatively wearing a blindfold and moving in space, changing direction, passing between obstacles, sitting on chairs). The best place to organise this activity would be outside in a park in order to have proper and large enough space.

Materials / Equipment needed:

Blindfold for each participant.

Group size: Any size

And then he/she asks the group to form couples : one being blindfolded and the other person being the guide. Once everyone is ready, they start to walk. After a sufficient amount of time, they switch and the guide becomes the blindfolded person. A white cane can be used to detect obstacles by the blindfolded participant. The activity ends when the group has ended the tour.

Reflection and evaluation questions:

After the activity, the participants are asked these questions: How was it for you? How did you feel when you were guided ? How did you feel when you guided the other person?
