Title: Take as much as you need
Summary:

The group sits in a circle, the vi facilitator passes along a roll of toilet paper asking participants to take as much as they need without giving any further explanation. Once everyone has his/her pieces toilet paper, the vi facilitator explains that for each square of toilet paper they have  in hand participants will have to state one thing about themselves. Participants will one by one take the word and will say out loud how many pieces of paper they have in hand and also announce their names in order for the VI facilitator to know who is speaking and how many things about themselves they will say.

Objectives:

Breaking the ice with the group.

Materials / Equipment needed:

One role of toilet paper. This exercise can be done also with a role of kitchen paper.

Group size: Any size
Duration: Depending on the group size - 1/2 minutes for each paricipant
Step-by-step instructions:

The steps and rules of the exercise are explained in the summary section.

Reflection and evaluation questions:

No reflection is needed but the vi facilitator may ask the group how it was to share personal things if he or she  feels that it would be useful or interesting for the group.

Possible risk factors:

The group can be silent or participants can feel unconfortable to share personal things with a group they do not know. In such a case the vi facilitator can ask them to talk about themselves or things that may be more obvious and not really personal or private.

Variations:

If the exercise is performed with a group of participants younger than 14 years old the things that participants share can be hobbies or things they would like to do in their free time.
