Title: Master of Diversity Trivial Contest
Summary:

You can use Add@Me Trivial as a powerful and very funny tool in your awareness raising workshops. Add@Me Trivial is a multilingual, accessible, and free to use online tool which consists of a series of quizzes regarding different aspects of visual impairment:

  • Disability knowledge
  • Braille code
  • Sports
  • Art & Music
  • History
  • Assistive Technologies

There is a special quiz “Master of Diversity” that includes a mix of questions from all the topics above.

The game can be played individually or in teams, by sharing a user account. Every time you take a quiz it will contain a different set of random questions. After every attempt you will get feedback about your answers, and your score. Those players who pass the quiz (5 out of 10 right answers are needed) will receive a badge. There is a time limit of 20 minutes to complete each attempt.

The different contest types you can organise with this tool only depends on your imagination. We will give you here just one idea. Adapt it to your needs!
Objectives:

Raise awareness about visual impairment and get to know some famous visually impaired people and their amazing achievements.

Materials / Equipment needed:

A reliable Internet connection and one device (mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop) per team (player) to browse the Trivial platform.

Group size: There is no limit for the number of contestants.
Duration: 20 minutes minimum
Step-by-step instructions:

  • Split your workshop participants in teams. Each team will have to choose its platform operator.
  • Ask the team operators to go to Add@Me Trivial platform ( https://trivial.ambassadorsofdiversity.eu ) and create an account (or use an already existing one).
  • Briefly explain your contest rules, and how to use the platform. You can find instructions at: https://trivial.ambassadorsofdiversity.eu/course/index.php?categoryid=2
  • Ask the team operators to go to Master of Diversity quiz. All the teams must start at the same time.
  • The team operator will have to read the questions and possible answers to their team members, and they will have to make their choice together.
  • At the end of the time limit, the team with the best score wins the game. Tiebreakers must be envisaged.
Reflection and evaluation questions:

After the activity, the facilitator can propose questions like: How do you feel about your team cooperation? What could be improved? What have you learnt about teamworking? What have you learnt about visual impairments?

Possible risk factors:

Technical issues may arise. Make sure that someone with basic technical skills is available in your team.

Variations:

Many different contests can be organised, both for teams and individuals. For example:

  • Multilingual contest: Choose one of the quizzes and challenge the teams to get the more badges in different languages they can, for the same quiz.
  • All in one team: Use just one Add@Me Trivial account for all the workshop participants. They will have to answer your questions (from the quiz) one by one in round.
  • Get your badges first: The first team in getting a determined number of badges will win the game.
